MR Methods for Epileptology/MRI coil and sequence development

The role of MR in epileptology is to help finding epileptogenic lesions, in order to enable surgical Treatment. Especially FCDs are not easily identified, their detection constitutes a challenge for MR imaging. To facilitate identification of relevant lesions, combination with modalities as MEG and EEG may be indicated. MR may also be needed to support invasive diagnostics. 

In this workshop imaging methods, techniques to interpret images, and requirements when combining MR and other modalities shall be discussed. Target audience are MR physicists and physicians with specific interest in MR in epileptology.

Participants are invited to contribute oral and/or poster presentation.

At present, the following talks will be presented: 

MR Imaging in Epilepsy: Introduction  (Harald Kugel, Münster)
Quantitative MRI: Techniques and Applications  (Ralf Deichmann Frankfurt)
Visualizing the traces of epileptic seizures - from epilepsy to seizure Imaging
(Theodor Rüber, Bonn)
Fast neuroimaging: What coils can do for you (Boris Keil, Gießen)
Critical MR Imaging with Implants  (Harald Kugel, Münster)


Possible further topics to be presented and discussed are: 

Finding FCDs
• Classical Techniques: T1w, DIR, FLAIR

Improved Methods:
• Zoomed Imaging
• Diffusion methods - Kurtosis imaging, NODDI

Connectivity determination:
• Structural connectivity - tractography
• Functional connectivity - rs-fMRI

Computational methods:
• Morphometry
• Quantitative MRI
• Parameter mapping/multi parameter mapping

New imaging methods:
• Fingerprinting/Compressed sensing

Improving combination with MEG/EEG
• Eddy current correction
• Susceptibility correction

MR safety questions of invasive diagnostics

For each topic there will be an introduction, followed by no fixed schedule, length and depth of discussion according to interest of participants. Additional proposals are welcome.
